Charles Clayton has a lasting relationship with one of the leading audit recruitment agencies, IAC

Article By Dave Pratt

After a fascinating international career in Finance with Unilever I took on my first FTSE 100 Head of Risk & Audit role at Compass Group in 2003. I was fortunate to meet Guy Stacey early as I was then forming my new department. So, I began working closely with what is now the IAC team, who helped me through the recruitment of my first audit team.

That relationship has endured through my time at Kingfisher and into my current role with RB, where IAC continue to source many of my highest potential team members.

"Guy Stacey, offers a first class and personalised service. I have yet to find anyone more closely in touch with the UK market for Internal Audit resource."

The strength of their network and contacts is unparalleled in the industry so I know I can rely on them for updates on the latest market trends and how that is influencing both salaries and hiring. In what appears to be a very transient industry it has been fantastic to develop such a long-term relationship with a highly professional team.

Charles’ career began with a formative experience as an officer in H.M. Royal Marines, complemented by a management traineeship with Unilever in 1984, where he completed the Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) qualification, together providing the best possible foundation for a Finance first career. Then came an Internal Audit & Risk Management second career, initially within Unilever, with new challenges in different sectors in Compass Group (Food Service) in 2003, Kingfisher (Retail D.I.Y.) in 2007 and Reckitt Benckiser (FMCG) in 2011. Charles considers himself enormously privileged to have lived and learned in Hong Kong, Mexico, USA and Brazil, as well as continuing to travel regularly to all corners of the globe in support of these great businesses. On the personal side, he enjoys a rich family life and keeping fit, always finding time for a game of tennis followed by a glass of red wine from the cellar!
