Hey! I’m George and I work in the Professional Services team here at IAC. I’ve been here for just over 6 months and have built up an understanding of what sectors within audit and assurance are specifically hot right now, evidenced by increased demand from clients.
As such, I think it’s extremely valuable to highlight the top five sectors for candidates right now; the value of this is that you, the candidate, gain a deeper understanding of what’s hot right now within the market and what may be in the future, allowing you to shape your job making decisions as best as possible.
Please see my top five sectors below:
1. Not-for-Profit 💜
A very recently accelerating sector that lots of clients have a need for. This value-add sector sees you working across education, charities, and more, allowing you to truly make an impact in the world. An increase in work won in the non-profit space has led to an increase in demand for candidates (and thus salary packages) with a desire for the sector and ideally those with prior experience of it.
2. Financial Services 💲
The indefinite introduction of UK SOX as well as recent trends like sustainable finance and ESG make financial services a continuously in-need industry. This industry is known for its slightly higher salary packages than other industries, however, is seen as more transactional and less value-add for auditors than other sectors.
3. Creative, Media, Technology, and Telecoms 💻
The growth of this industry is largely driven by the immense growth seen by technology companies. This industry is known for its dynamism due to continuous technological innovation, making progression and enjoyment for auditors potentially higher than seen in other industries.
4. Hospitality 🍻
A rapidly growing sector as the world exits the pandemic. This industry sees slightly higher travel than others and can allow you to audit anything from hotels to bars, making this another dynamic and versatile industry.
5. Natural resources and energy 🌱
The upcoming years for this sector are green – pardon the pun. Increased regulation and focus on environmental issues concerning oil, gas, mining, and renewables companies mean that the industry is having to adapt to sustainability and focus on achieving net-zero, making it another strong prospect for long-term growth.
