Why is CGEIT the elite It governance qualification?

Launched in 2007, the ISACA Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certificate has become the premier qualification for those responsible for directing and managing the governance of IT in a large organisation. ISACA has confirmed that there are over 6,000 CGEIT professionals worldwide, with 77% holding senior positions as IT directors, audit directors, CIOs, CISOs and CEOs.

The elite status of CGEIT is also acknowledged in the results of the CIO IT Certification Hot List 2015: 10 That Deliver Higher Pay and the Foote Partners IT Skills and Certification Pay Index™ (ITSCPI), which rated it among the three highest-paying IT certifications for the quarter ending December 2015.

WHY HAS CGEIT BECOME IMPORTANT?

The rise of CGEIT is proportional to the growing importance and relevance of IT governance in larger organisations. With an ever increasing reliance on (and budget for) IT to deliver services, and the growing burden of compliance to laws and regulations, effective IT governance is acknowledged as the key to strategic IT management in all successful organisations. Managers with IT governance experience and qualifications rise quickly through the ranks to achieve senior roles that often report directly to the board.

In common with other ISACA qualifications such as CISA and CISM, achieving CGEIT takes more than just passing a rigorous written exam. Candidates must have at least five years of experience in the following knowledge domains:

  • Framework for the Governance of Enterprise IT
  • Strategic Management
  • Benefits Realization
  • Risk Optimization
  • Resource Optimization

All CGEIT holders are expected to comply with the ISACA Code of Professional Ethics and maintain their knowledge by complying with the CGEIT Continuing Education Policy. The official CGEIT examinations are held in June and December of each year, and the next exam date scheduled for 11 June 2016. Please note that final registration date for this exam is 8 April 2016.

IT Governance Ltd offers a complete range of products, including study guides and training courses, designed to help you pass the CGEIT examination at the first attempt.

The flagship product in this range is the CGEIT Exam Preparation course. The next session of this intensive four-day classroom course is led by Dr. Geoff Harmer and is being held in London on 17-20 May 2016
